Measure, then change your strap.

Measure the lug width

  1. Turn the watch over, dial facing down.
  2. With a ruler, measure the inside gap between the two lugs, where the spring bar sits.
  3. Round to the nearest millimetre: 20, 22 and 24 mm are the most common widths.

If you are between two sizes, measure again: a strap that is too narrow leaves a gap, one that is too wide won’t fit.

Change the strap

  1. Quick release: pull the small lever on the spring bar, remove the strap, then do the reverse with the new one.
  2. Standard spring bars: slide the tip of the tool between the strap and the lug to compress the spring bar.
  3. Position the new strap, compress the spring bar, then let it click into the lug hole.
  4. Gently pull each side to check that everything is secure.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find my watch’s strap width?

Measure in millimetres the gap between the two lugs of the case, where the strap attaches: this is the lug width. A MoonSwatch takes 20 mm, a Blancpain x Swatch Scuba Fifty Fathoms 22 mm. For other watches, the width can vary by reference: each strap’s Amazon listing shows its exact width.

Are HORACE straps original straps?

No. HORACE is an independent brand that designs straps compatible with watches from Swatch, Rolex, Omega, Tudor, Panerai and Citizen. It is neither affiliated with nor endorsed by these brands.

Do I need tools to change the strap?

Quick-release models fit without tools, thanks to a small lever built into the spring bar. For the others, each strap’s Amazon listing specifies what is supplied for fitting.

Which material should I choose to swim with my watch?

FKM rubber, silicone, NATO and hook-and-loop nylon all handle water. Leather, however, does not like swimming or heavy sweating: keep it for dressier wear.
